All-day freestyle jams and 4-square.
Special invited guests: Felix Zenger (Finland), and Ales Zelinka (Czech Republic).
This event takes place in the City Lights conference room behind the main reception desk just at the main entrance to the Milberry Student Union at the University of California, San Francisco (500 Parnassus, San Francisco).
Parking is available in the Milberry Union Garage (enter at 500 Parnassus), for about $2.50/hr. (The rate changes depending on how long you're there, but 3-4 hours is $10, 4-6 hours is $12.50.) Even though it's not cheap, I recommend parking in the Milberry lot to avoid getting a parking ticket since these are weekdays and non-holidays and SF is a pretty crazy place when it comes to parking! Bank on paying $10-$12.50 and you won't have to hassle with street parking.
This is a must-see event! The doors open on Tuesday and Wednesday at 12pm, and the music and freestyle will go on for 4 or 5 hours. We'll end at 4 on Tuesday and at 6 on Wednesday.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS: ------------------ Coming from areas north of San Francisco: Take US-101 south across the bay bridge, and continue on Park Presidio south through Golden Gate Park. Once you exit the park, you'll be on 19th Ave. You'll need to turn LEFT onto Lincoln Way, which is the first intersection after the park. (If you can't turn left, use the old 3-rights rule.) Follow Lincoln Way (going east) until you get to 7th Ave., and TURN RIGHT onto 7th Ave. Go a few blocks until you see Judah on your right, which is really Parnassus to your left. Turn LEFT (eastbound) onto Judah. Go through some stop signs and up the hill 'til you get to the UCSF Campus at the top of the hill. Watch for pedestrians. Turn LEFT into the Milberry Union garage just past the pedestrian crosswalk (which has a light at it). You can miss it so be careful and go slow. There's a left-turn lane just where you need to turn. Watch for oncoming traffic; it's a little confusing the first time. The garage is directly under 500 Parnassus which is where the event will be. Park anywhere in the garage by following the signs for public parking, and then find your way back to the main street level of 500 Parnassus. There's a big desk just inside the main entrance, and we are behind that desk (to the left). If you can't find us, ask at the desk about the "footbag event". Coming from areas south of San Francisco: Take I-280 north all the way to San Francisco, and then follow the Golden Gate Bridge, 19th Avenue exit (basically go straight while 280 veers to the right). However, that's where you stop following the signs to GG Bridge/19th. Instead of turning left with all the traffic onto 19th, you want to be in the RIGHT LANE and go STRAIGHT across the big intersection at 19th, continuing on Portola Rd. (northbound). Follow Portola Rd. until you get to a left-turn light at Claremont. Turn LEFT onto Claremont. (If you see Laguna Honda, you've gone too far. But you can turn left on Laguna Honda and meet back up with the other plan.) If you follow Claremont for a bit, going as straight as you can through a big traffic circle, you will merge with Laguna Honda. Go STRAIGHT at the light onto Laguna Honda, which takes you down a hill and you pass the hospital on your right and a transit station on your left. Follow that road through the valley and it emerges as 7th Ave. (You don't turn; you'll just end up on 7th Ave.) Follow 7th Ave. for quite a few blocks until you get to Judah. The tricky part is that Parnassus changes names just around that intersection. You may see a sign for Judah or Parnassus. Take either one to the right. It will become Parnassus right away. (So, turn RIGHT onto Judah/Parnassus heading eastbound). Go through some stop signs and up the hill 'til you get to the UCSF Campus at the top of the hill. Watch for pedestrians.
